Panther Cross Country Teams Collect Top-3 Finishes

NEWARK, Del. — The University of Pittsburgh cross country teams found success in the final race before the Big East Championships with the men collecting a second place finish and the women third at the Delaware Alumni Invitational.
Despite running without two of their top five runners, the men’s team finished second to host Delaware, the No. 13 team in the latest regional rankings. Freshman Greg Kareis (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion Area) edged out Chris Bourke (Delaware) by just over a second for first place honors, finishing the 8k race in 25:45.44.
Sophomores Teddy Miller (Ambler, Pa./Ambler) and Josh Christopher (Irwin, Pa.-Penn-Trafford) finished 16 seconds apart, with Miller running a 26:16.44 and Christopher a 26:31.08. Also turning in valiant efforts on the day was junior Lane King (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) and John Morrow (Tulsa, Okla./Holland Hall). King ran a 26:44.81 for ninth place while Morrow finished 15th in 26:52.49.
Senior Ali Briggs (Washington, Pa./Washington) led the Panther women to a third place team finish, following Millersville and Delaware, 10th in the regional rankings. Briggs finished in 19:14.46 in the 5k race. Junior Monica Bhattacharjee (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) followed close behind in 12th at 19:25.63.
The Panthers are off until October 31 when they travel to Van Cortlandt Park in New York for the Big East Championship race.
