PITTSBURGH - This weekend, several members of the Pitt Men and Women track and field teams will travel back to State College to compete in the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup. The events will begin Friday, Feb. 1, and continue throughout Saturday. They will also send a group to the Kentucky Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington, Ky.
Numerous athletes will be contending in this year's cup, many of whom have already claimed spots at the ECAC and IC4A conference meets by tallying qualifying marks over the past few weeks.
On the men's side, Mike Wray (Philadelphia, Pa./Central High School) will look for a top place finish in the 60 meters, and the 60-meter hurdles, where he has already proven himself with a time of 8.16 last weekend on the same track.
Anthony Hobwana (Harare, Zimbabwe/Prince Edward School) will also be a competitor in the 60 meters this weekend, holding an IC4A time of 6.92, which he ran at the Kentucky Invitational.
Two Panther jumpers will also be representing this weekend with secured spots in the IC4A competition as well. In the triple jump event, Eric Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Gateway) and Brandon Turner (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) hold remarkable distances of 14.48 and 14.37.
The Women's track team will stack the roster this weekend with several national-bound athletes.
