PITTSBURGH--Members of the Pitt women's track and field teams traveled to Boston, Mass., this past weekend to take part in the ECAC Indoor Championships. The Panthers placed 11th out of 53 teams and brought home some very solid finishes.
Janessa Murphy (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) captured Pitt's lone event crown after turning in a distance of 6.07 meters in the long jump. The victory marked Murphy's second long jump title at the conference meet in as many seasons. It also gave her a fourth consecutive All-ECAC honor, dating back to the 2006 outdoor meet.
Mycaiah Clemons (New Kensington, Pa./Valley/Virginia Tech) also found herself on the awards platform after a second-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles. She turned in a time of 8.52 in the finals after besting the competition in the semifinal heats.
Sophomore Kari Hedderick (Erie, Pa./Fort Lebouf) competed in the 500 meter dash and came in seventh with a mark of 1:14.46. Raquel Bender (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) added another top-10 finish for the Panthers with a sixth-place time of 24.50 in the finals of the 200 meters.
The Panthers will now get ready for the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. Action will begin on Saturday, March 15 and conclude on the following day.
