Women's Track And Field Earns Six Additional Regional Invitations

PRINCETON, N.J.--Pitt's women's track and field team earned another six invitations to the NCAA Regionals, as the Panthers tied for seventh overall with 38 points at the ECAC Outdoor Championships, this weekend.
Claiming two invitations to the regional meet, senior Shantea Calhoun (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross) placed third in both the prelims and semifinals, but improved to second in the finals with a NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 11.62.
Later, she also qualified for the regionals in the 200-meter dash with a third-place finish in the finals at 23.96, which was just under the standard of 23.96.
In the 100M hurdles, junior Mycaiah Clemons (New Kensington, Pa./Virginia Tech) improved from seventh to fourth in the 100M hurdles, recording a NCAA Regional standard of 13.81 in the finals.
Sophomore Brianna Broyles (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) joined Clemons in the semifinals of the 100M hurdles and just missed qualifying for the regional meet as she placed 10th at the 13.96 mark.
However, Broyles later finished fifth in the semifinals of the 400M hurdles with a regional qualifying mark of 1:00.52.
Senior Amy Ruffolo (Wexford, Pa,/Duquesne) also recorded a regional mark with a 10th-place finish in the 3,000M steeplechase (10:48.79).
Finishing the finals of two events, senior Shanea Calhoun (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross) placed eighth in the prelims of the 100-meter dash at the 11.94 mark. She would later place 10th overall in the finals.
Running in the finals of the 200M dash, Shanea placed sixth overall after turning in a time of 23.89 earlier in the prelims that qualified her for the regionals.
Pitt's 4x100M relay team rounded out the regional qualifiers, for the day, with a time of 45.62, placing second in the finals and shaving 12 tenths of a second off their prelims time.
Earning a fourth-place finish, freshman Nicole Cherry (Utica, Pa./Franklin) threw the javelin a distance of 43.19m.
Junior Janessa Murphy (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 5.99m, while senior Kim Rorabough (Clymer, Pa./Purchase Line) was 13th in the hammer throw (49.88m).
Other Panthers finishing with top 26 marks included Victoria Toso in the pole vault (3.50m) at 18th, Jazmin Hunt was 19th in the 100M hurdles (14.57), Da'Lynn Mills placed 22nd in the 100-meter dash (12.23) and in the 200M dash (24.73), Raquel Bender was 23rd in the 200M dash (24.74), Martina Hallman in the long jump (5.27m) at 25th overall and Kari Henderson placed 26th in the 400M dash at 56.60.
In addition to those qualifying for the NCAA Regionals this weekend, Cherry and Murphy met the standard during the Big East Championships and will travel to Tallahassee, Fla., for the two-day meet beginning on Friday, May 30.
