LYNCHBURG, Va. - Former Pitt standout Jim Negrych has been outstanding this season as a member of the Lynchburg Hillcats of the Carolina League, sitting in the top five in league standings in numerous categories.
For his efforts, Negrych earned a spot on the Carolina All-Stars roster for the California-Carolina League earlier this summer. Starting at third base, Negrych hit 2 for 3 as the Carolina All- Stars defeated the California All-Stars 3-1.
In just his second season of professional baseball, Negrych leads the league in hitting with a .364 average and is among the top 30 prospects for the Carolina League.
In 2006, Negrych batted .396 with 11 homeruns and 60 RBI for the Panthers. He was both a two-time first team All-Big East and All-America selection and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the sixth round.
