NEGRYCH CALLED UP TO ALTOONA
PITTSBURGH—Former University of Pittsburgh baseball standout Jim Negrych has recently been called up to the Altoona Curve, the Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.
Prior to joining the Curve, Negrych played for the Lynchburg Hillcats where he lead the Class-A Carolina League in batting average (.370), hits (143), doubles (36), on-base percentage (.448) and runs scored (77).
In his first two games with Altoona, the Buffalo native has gone 5-for-9, bumping his average up to .375, ranking second in all of Minor League Baseball.
In 2006, Negrych batted .396 with 11 homeruns and 60 RBI for the Panthers. He was both a two-time first team All-Big East and All-America selection and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the sixth round.
