KREUZLINGEN, Switzerland--Pitt's men's swimming and diving freshman Christoph Berger garnered the 400 IM National Championship while competing in the Switzerland's National Swimming Championships, the Schweizer Meisterschaften, from July 10-13.
The Schweizer Meisterschaften was held under extreme conditions, as the athletes were outside in snowy, 40-degree weather. Despite the chilly environment, Berger competed in six events, earning the National Champion in the 400 IM. He also placed second in the 200 IM, 100 back and 200 back, while finishing fifth in the 200 fly and 200 free.
Because his father is of Swiss origin, Berger possesses dual citizenship between the United States and Switzerland. Berger is also a member of the Swiss swim club, SchwimmClub Uster-Wallisellen.
Berger will swim in his first meet as a Panther on Oct. 24, when Pitt hosts St. Bonaventure at Trees Pool.
