PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh baseball incoming junior Chris Sedon was recently named the Santy Gallone Most Valuable Player for the American Collegiate Baseball League (ACBL) after a productive 2008 season.
Sedon powered the Kutztown Rockies to a 24-15 record and second-place finish in the Wolff Division during the regular season. Sedon ranked first or second in eight offensive categories for the Rockies, including batting average (.346), runs scored (21), hits (37), doubles (8), triples (4), home runs (2), RBI (15) and stolen bases (8).
Additionally, Sedon’s strong play led the Rockies to the ACBL Championship. In the league standings, Sedon ranked third or better in four offensive categories – percentage reached as leadoff hitter (T-1st, .667), triples (2nd, 4), slugging percentage (3rd, 551) and sacrifice bunts (T-3rd, 4).
In addition to his post-season MVP award, Sedon also earned the 2008 ACBL All-Star MVP Award after hitting two home runs in the mid-season all-star contest.
The junior-to-be is transferring from Lackawanna Community College where he played infield and pitched for the Falcons. While at LCC, Sedon was a part of the Division II Region 19 championship team in 2007.
