Pitt wrestling has released its upcoming 2009-10 schedule, as announced by head coach Rande Stottlemyer Tuesday.
The Panthers will face a challenging schedule in 2009-10, including three teams that finished among the top 20 at the 2009 NCAA Championships: Edinboro (6th), Illinois (8th) and Penn State (17th).
Pitt opens the dual season with a tri-match on Nov. 13 at Drexel against host Drexel and Sacred Heart. Two days later, on Nov. 15, the Panthers take on Lehigh, prior to the Sprawl & Brawl where they will dual with Davidson, Rider and Illinois in Binghamton, N.Y. on Nov. 22. The Panthers then travel to the Penn State Open on Dec. 6.
The Panthers will host in-state rival Penn State along with Rutgers in a tri-match on Dec. 12 at 5 p.m., marking the opening of the 2009-10 home season at Fitzgerald Field House. In addition, Pitt will host Columbia, Eastern Michigan and Waynesburg in a quad match on Jan. 9 beginning at 10 a.m. at Fitzgerald Field House.
Eastern Wrestling League competition begins on Jan. 15 with a 7 p.m. meeting with Lock Haven. Rounding out Pitt’s home league schedule is Clarion on Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. and Edinboro on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Field House. The last two EWL regular season championships have come down to the Pitt - Edinboro dual match. The Panthers’ only other home match is Jan. 23 against Penn at 2 p.m.
Pitt travels to Bloomsburg Jan. 17, Cleveland State on Jan. 21, Millersville on Jan. 30 and West Virginia on Feb. 6 to round out the regular season travel schedule.
On March 7, Pitt travels back to Morgantown for the EWL Championship to be held at the WVU Coliseum. March 18-20, the Panthers look to the NCAA Championship, which will head to Omaha, Neb. for the first time in championships history this season.
