PITTSBURGH—Pitt’s swimming and diving team will open its season on Saturday, Oct. 17, as the Panthers travel to Olean, N.Y. to face St. Bonaventure. Diving begins at 10 a.m., while swimming starts at noon.
Pitt enters the season, coming off its annual Blue-Gold meet at Trees Pool. During the contest, junior Laura Barnes broke the 200 breast record, while sophomore Jake Lucas set a record in the 100 free.
The Panthers look to sweep St. Bonaventure for the 13th-consecutive season. The women last fell to the Bonnies during the 1996-97 season.
In last year’s meeting, junior Kristen McMullan won three individual events for Pitt including the 50 free, 100 free and the 100 fly. Additionally, Barnes placed first in the 100 and 200 breast, and competed as the second leg of the 200 medley relay that placed first.
On the men’s side, junior Andrzej Dubiel won three first place finishes, claiming crowns in the 50 free, 100 free and as a member of the 200 medley relay. Junior Bobby Smith and sophomore Rousseau Kluever also recorded first place finishes in two individual events, a piece.
Pitt’s divers swept the 1M & 3M boards, on the men’s and women’s side, as well.
