WEXFORD, Pa.—Notre Dame scored a goal in the game’s 48th minute and held on to register a 1-0 win against the Pitt men’s soccer team Saturday afternoon at North Allegheny High School. The game was moved to North Allegheny High School due to inclement weather and poor field condition at Pitt’s normal facility Founders Field.
Pitt drops to 1-12-2 overall on the year and 0-8-1 in the Big East. Notre Dame improves to 9-6-1 overall and 7-3-0 in the Big East.
Notre Dame’s Michael Rose scored on a shot at the 47:05 mark. The goal was assisted by both Michael Thomas, who flicked the ball on after receiving a cross from Jeb Brovsky.
Notre Dame outshot Pitt 16-8 and knocked six shots on goal to Pitt’s one. The Fighting Irish had several opportunities that either sailed high or were saved by Pitt goalkeeper Zack Matthews. Matthews finished with five saves in the game.
Pitt had several opportunities to score in the second half but could not find the back of the net. Pitt had five shots in the second half.
Pitt is next in action on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at Founders Field against Seton Hall.
