Panthers Drop Season Finale, 5-0 to Marquette

MILWAUKEE — The University of Pittsburgh men’s soccer team dropped its 2009 season finale, 5-0 to Marquette University here at Valley Fields on Halloween night.
The Golden Eagles (4-9-3, 3-4-3 Big East) were powered by three first-half goals, including two from Chris Madsen. Madsen would add another goal in the second half to finish the day with three goals and an assist, tying a Valley Fields record for points scored in a single game.
Madsen put Marquette ahead 1-0 just three minutes into the game, scoring from 15 yards out off a Ryan Robb serve in. He would strike again, this time 14 minutes later to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead when he took a crossing pass from Anthony Colaizzi and headed it in from eight yards out past Zack Matthews (Plum, Pa./Plum).
Amilcar Herrera extended MU’s lead to 3-0 in the 31st minute when he knocked in a rebound off a Madsen header into the box.
The Golden Eagles outshot the Panthers (2-13-2, 1-9-1 Big East) 7-2 in the opening half and held a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
Madsen added his third goal of the game in the 65th minute and Robb notched his first of the game in the 82nd minute to round of the scoring in the second half for Marquette.
The Panthers end the 2009 season with a 2-13-2 overall record and a 1-9-1 mark in Big East play.
