PITTSBURGH—Pitt’s entire swim coaching staff of Marian Clark, Jeff Berghoff, Aaron Workman, Tanica Jamison and head coach Chuck Knoles all put on swim suits and gave in-the-water lessons to participants, as the Panthers hosted a free swim lesson on Sunday, Nov. 1, at Trees Pool.
Knoles and his staff intend to offer the free lesson program each fall and spring, however the spring date for 2010 has not been announced. The goal of the program is to promote swimming as a lifelong sport to the families at Pitt, as free lessons were offered to the children and grandchildren of Pitt staff and faculty.
“I am pleased with the attendance at our first free lesson program for Pitt employees—especially given our limited advertising this first time,” Knoles said.
“Promoting swimming as a life sport to the Pitt faculty and staff families is the key reasoning for us hosting the program. We offer not only competitive swimming at Pitt, but also have a great lessons program run by Aquatics Director Kevin McLaughlin throughout the year. We also have swimming programs for masters swimmers (swimmers aged 19-90) and tri-athletes as well.”
Inquiries about competitive swimming should be directed via e-mail to Jamison at TJamison@pitt.edu. Inquiries about learn-to-swim lessons should be directed via e-mail to McLaughlin at kjmclaug@education.pitt.edu.
