Kolwyck Earns Performer of the Meet

PITTSBURGH—Freshman Jared Kolwyck earned Pitt Performer of the Meet after recording a season-best, despite the University of Pittsburgh men’s swimming and diving team slipped in a 179-121 loss to Big East rival Notre Dame, this evening, at Trees Pool. Pitt fell to 2-2 on the year, while the Fighting Irish improved to 4-1.
Kolwyck kept the pace in the 1,000 free and turned in his best time of the season, placing second at 9:47.18.
In what has been an exciting race in all four meets, this season, sophomore Otto Pagel won the 200 free, touching the wall at 1:41.08. He was followed less than a quarter of a second later by freshman Hussein Medhat at 1:41.27. Medhat also finished second in the 100 (46.74) and 500 free (4:42.51).
In the diving events, junior Collin Forner won the 3M with 330.30 points and took second on the 1M board with a score of 301.50.
Other individual second-place performances were recorded by junior Andrzej Dubiel in the 100 back (51.38), senior Jon Buchanan in the 100 breast (57.36), senior Justin Corvin in the 50 free (21.20) and junior Alex McLaren in the 100 fly (51.27).
Additionally, Pitt’s 200 medley relay team of Dubiel, Buchanan, senior Geoff Morgan and Corvin combined for a second-place finish at 1:32.51.
Pitt’s divers are in action on Nov. 20 in the Hoosierland Invitational, while the swimmers have a break till Dec. 4, when they travel to Columbus, Ohio for the Ohio State Invitational.
