McDonnell Wins the 200 Free

PITTSBURGH—Senior Lisa McDonnell won an individual event, despite the University of Pittsburgh women’s swimming and diving team suffered a 168.5-74.5 loss to conference foe Louisville, this evening, at Trees Pool. The Panthers fell to 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in the Big East.
McDonnell won the 200 free (1:50.67) and placed second in the 100 free (51.25). She was also the lead leg of Pitt’s 400 free relay team that touched second. Joining McDonnell on the relay was sophomores Elena Spak, Yolandi Van Rooyen and Kristen McMullan.
In the first individual swimming event of the meet, freshman Victoria Alland placed second in the 1,000 free, while classmate Elizabeth Tabor claimed third and Kelsey Herbst was fourth. Later, Alland finished third in the 500 free.
Junior Cookie McIntyre placed second in the 200 fly at 2:06.16, while classmate Laura Barnes took second in the 200 breast at 2:17.75.
In the 200 back, freshman Joanna Budzis touched second, while seniors Ryann Kishbaugh and Allie Horvath placed third and fourth.
In the diving events, senior Margo Ekstrom recorded third-place finished on both boards.
The Panthers host Cincinnati at Trees Pool, on Saturday, at 11 a.m.
