Swimming and Diving Completes Day One in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio—Several Panthers record season-bests, as the University of Pittsburgh men’s swimming and diving team competed in the first day of action at the Ohio State Swimming and Diving Invitational.
Junior Andrzej Dubiel was just shy of earning a spot in the B heat of the 50 freestyle, after tying a Minnesota swimmer. He would later finish 18th overall in the event. Senior Justin Corvin finished 20th at 21.28 in the same race. Dubiel’s prelim time of 20.89 is a season best for the team.
Earning a top-30 finish in the 500 free was freshman Hussein Medhat, stopping the clock at 4:38.30. His time is currently the best mark of the season for the Panthers in that event and was four seconds faster than the team’s previous best. Junior Alex McLaren finished next for the Panthers at 4:41.02, in the same event.
Pitt ended the morning prelims with top-35 finishes from sophomore Rousseau Kluever and senior Charlie Zettel, who finished the 200 IM at 1:55.64 and 1:55.65, respectively. Kluever and Zettel also recorded their best times of the season in the event.
The 200 free relay team of Dubiel, Corvin, senior Alex Kubicek and junior Bobby Smith placed ninth at 1:23.88, while the 400 medley relay team finished at 3:28.51.
Saturday’s events begin at 10 a.m. and include the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, women’s 1M board, men’s 3M board, 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay.
