Panthers to Compete at Fred Hardy and Stanford Invites

PITTSBURGH- Coming off of a successful meet in Charlotte, the Panthers will look to continue the outdoor season just as strong as it began. Athletes are set to travel to separate meets as some will head to Richmond, Va and others to Palo Alto, Ca. Those traveling to Richmond are prepared to compete at the fifth annual Fred Hardy Invitational. A limited number of athletes will compete at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Ca.
The Pitt women proved strong in the field events last weekend at the 49er Classic in Charlotte. Sarah Anderson and Nicole Cherry led the Panthers with first place marks in the hammer throw and the javelin respectively, while Anita James led with a first place finish in the triple jump. Kari Weimerskirch captured second for the team in the high jump.
Kari Hedderick and Gizelle Joshua led the women in the running events with third and fourth place finishes in the 800 meter run.
The men were led by Garrett Larkin's second place mark in the shot put. Dan Kwiatkowski captured fifth in the shot put, while Matt Raquet added another fifth place mark in the javelin.
Dontave Cowsette contributed to the team score last weekend with his third place performance in the 800 meter run. Teddy Miller and Greg Kareis carried the distance squad last weekend in Charlotte. Miller secured sixth in the 5000 meter run and seventh in the 3000 meter run, while Kareis finished sixth in the 3000 meter run.
Fred Hardy events are scheduled to begin Friday, March 27 and will conclude Saturday, March 28. The meet will begin at 1:30 pm on Friday and 9 am on Saturday. Due to construction at Richmond's First Market Stadium, the meet is being held in downtown Richmond at the Sports Backers Stadium. For the third year in a row, live results can be tracked free through video stream web.
Events at the Stanford Invitational are tentatively scheduled to begin at 10:30 am on Friday and 9 am on Saturday. The meet will be held at the Cobb Track and Angell Field. Live meet results will also be available from Stanford Invitational.
