PITTSBURGH- Members of the track and field team will part ways as they travel to participate in one of three different meets this weekend. Athletes are scheduled to take part in either the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, the Aggie Relays in Greensboro, N.C., or the Duke Invite in Durham, N.C.
A select number of athletes will participate in the 82nd annual Texas Relays, a four day event presented by State Farm. The relays, which never fail to draw in large crowds of spectators, are being held April 1-4 at the Mike A. Meyers Stadium. Live meet results can be found at http://www.texassports.com/livestats/m-track/relays/index.htm.
A majority of the team is set to compete in Greensboro, N.C. at the Aggie Relays. The invitational will take place Friday, April 3 through Saturday, April 4 at North Carolina A&T University. Several Pitt runners will also be competing at the Wallace Wade Stadium in the Duke Invitational. The meet is scheduled for April 3 and 4. Live flash results will be available at www.FlashResults.com.
Antony Hobwana will lead the men again in the sprints at the Texas Relays. In the middle distance events, Dontave Cowsette, who won the 800 meter run last weekend in Richmond, will be a major factor for Pitt at the Texas Relays as well.
Brandon Turner, who was awarded first place in the triple jump last weekend, will look to do the same at the Aggie Relays. Highlighting the throws at the Aggie Relays should be Garrett Larkin, Dan Kwiatkowski and Kurt Barnhart, while Matt Raquet will look to be a major contributor for the men in the javelin once again.
For the women, Janessa Murphy and Da'Lynn Mills will lead the women in the sprints after taking the top places at the previous meet in Richmond, Va. Both are traveling to Austin for the Texas Relays.
Leading the way in the 800 meter run will be Kari Hedderick along with Gizelle Joshua, Miya Johnson and Susan Martinez. All four are set to participate in both the Aggie Relays and the Duke Invitational in North Carolina.
The field events should be nothing short of success as well. Mills, Kari Weimerskirch and Erinn McMahon will look to garner top honors again after notching second through fourth respectively last weekend in the high jump. Shanae' Thomas and Anita James grabbed third and fourth place in that order in the long jump last weekend and should be the main contributors in that event. James also won the triple jump last weekend.
