Women's Track Claims Morgan State Legacy Title

PITTSBURGH -- The University of Pittsburgh's women's track and field team captured first place at the Morgan State Legacy meet held in Baltimore, Md., this past weekend. The Panthers 180.5 team points were almost double that of second place Norfolk State (100).
The field events proved to be the strong point for Pitt throughout the meet. In the pole vault, the Panthers took three of the top four slots, with Victoria Toso capturing first with a height of 3.50 meters. Janelle Adams was third at 3.20 and Kendall Butch followed in fourth. Da'Lynn Mills was second in the high jump with a leap of 1.65 meters while Janessa Murphy was second in the long jump with a mark of 5.88 meters.
Sarah Anderson led the women throwers on the day, placing in three events for Pitt. Her 39.66 meter mark in the discus was good for fifth while her hammer throw of 45.13 meters gave her fourth and a 12.85 meter mark in the shot put placed her in fifth.
Pitt swept the top three spots in the javelin, with Kelsey Voltz taking top honors with a distance of 38.99 meters. Leah Ulizio was second and Kelcy Altmire third with throws of 37.06 and 34.83 meters respectively.
In the sprints, Cambrya Jones finished third in the 100 meter dash (11.83) and Kaetlyn Brown seventh in the 200 meter dash (24.74). Mycaiah Clemons hit an NCAA Regional qualifying time in the 100 meter hurdles yet again, finishing second in a time of 13.64.
Brianna Broyles and Clemons dominated the 400 meter hurdles field, finishing second and third with times of 1:00.78 and 1:01.37 respectively.
Clemons teamed up with Mills, Jones and Raquel Bender to form the winning 4x100 meter relay squad, turning in a meet-best time of 46.29.
In the distance events, Kari Hedderick (2:14.77) and Gizelle Joshua (2:16.17) finished sixth and seventh in the 800 meter run while Ali Briggs took third in the 1,500 meter run in a time of 4:51.38.
Melissa Vignetti turned in an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 9:43.08 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, taking top honors. Kaitlyn Flynn also picked up a first place finish, totaling 4,645 points in the heptathlon.
The Panthers will be in action this coming weekend as they travel to Philadelphia, Pa. for the prestigious Penn Relays.
