Panthers Capture Multiple Top-20 Finishes at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The University of Pittsburgh’s women’s track and field team had a strong showing at the annual Penn Relays, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pa.
Overall, 11 Panthers finished in the top-20 in their respective events. Anita James was the highest finisher, taking fourth place in the long jump with a mark of 5.91 meters. Janessa Murphy followed close behind in 13th place with a distance of 5.65 meters.
In the high jump, Kari Weimerskirch and Erinn McMahon both tied for 14th place, clearing a height of 1.61 meters. Wunmi Fapohunda and Sarah Anderson both captured 19th place in the triple jump (11.25 meters) and shot put (12.23 meters) respectively. In the javelin, Kelsey Voltz was seventh and Leah Ulizio 14th with marks of 41.11 meters and 35.02 meters. Nicole Cherry finished ninth in the championship bracket with a heave of 37.23 meters while Tori Toso rounded out the field event placers with a 21st place finish in the pole vault, clearing 3.35 meters.
Mycaiah Clemons won her heat and took 12th overall in the 400 meter hurdles while teammate Brianna Broyles placed third in her heat and 16th overall. The 4x100 meter relay team comprised of Da’Lynn Mills, Cambrya Jones, Broyles and Clemons finished second in the ECAC run, stopping the clock at 45.77.
The Panthers continues action this week at the Big East Outdoor Championships, hosted by Villanova University, May 1-3.
