Panther Women Place 10th at ECAC Championship Meet

PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Pittsburgh women’s track and field team had a strong finish, coming in 10th place overall, tallying 28 points at the 2009 ECAC Track and Field championship hosted by Princeton University, located in Princeton, N.J.
Overall, six panthers had top-20 finishes in their respective events. Freshman Cambrya Jones accumulated the most points by placing second in the 200 meter dash (23.81) and taking the sixth place finish in the 100 meter dash (12.06).
Continuing on the track, senior Mycaiah Clemons secured the Panthers a fifth place in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.25 seconds.
While Jones carried the Panthers in the sprints, the field events helped secure Pitt’s successful finish. Janessa Murphy captured second place in the long jump with a mark of 6.02 meters, while her teammate Anita Jones leapt for 5.79 meters, securing the seventh place finish in the same event. Murphy also jumped for 11.47 meters in the triple jump, finishing 25th, ahead of sophomore Wunmi Fapohuna who reached a mark of 10.98 meters, landing in 28th place.
Thrower Kelsey Voltz generated a 40.39 meter mark in the javelin, giving her a 12th place finish, while teammate Nicole Cherry followed behind with a throw of 36.66 meters taking 24th place. Sarah Anderson also captured 24th place finish in the hammer throw event with a distance of 47.19 meters.
Once again, Kaitlyn Flynn had a strong finish in the heptathlon event, accumulating a total of 4,743 points, landing her a fifth place position.
Next up for the women’s track and field team is the NCAA East Regional, located in Greensboro, N.C. The event will take place May 29th and the 30th.
