Sedon Named to All-BIG EAST First Team

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Junior second baseman Chris Sedon has been selected to the BIG EAST Conference First Team, announced the conference office here tonight at the opening ceremonies of the 2009 Big East Championship Tournament.
Sedon is the 16th Panther to garner All-BIG EAST First Team honors and the first since Jim Negrych in 2006.
For the season, Sedon has started 46 games and ranks in the top 10 of several major offensive categories, including: batting average, (.404), home runs (20), stolen bases (19) and slugging percentage (.788).
He started the season off with an eight-game hitting streak and has since added two separate nine-game streaks and has been named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll on four occasions throughout the year. In the final conference series of the regular season, Sedon posted a 1.444 slugging percentage, batted .444 (4-for-9), hit three home runs, including two in game on and seven RBI over the two-game span.
Entering the championship tournament, Sedon has produced one of the finest seasons by a Pitt player, ranking among the top-five in six offensive categories; slugging percentage (.788, 4th), hits (78, 2nd), runs scored (62, 3rd), home runs (20, 2nd), RBI (58, 5th) and total bases (152, 2nd).
The Panthers will be in action tomorrow night, May 19, as they take on No. 2 South Florida at 8 p.m. here at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla.
