TUCSON, Ariz. — University of Pittsburgh junior second baseman Chris Sedon was named to the Louisville Slugger TPX All-America First Team, announced Collegiate Baseball newspaper earlier today.
Sedon became the third player in school history to earn Louisville Slugger First Team All-America honors, joining Jim Negrych (2006) and P.J. Hiser (2004).
“It’s such a great honor,” said Sedon. “Being an All-American is something you strive to achieve, and to be named to the first team along with some of the best players in the country is just awesome.”
In his first year at Pitt, he produced one of the finest seasons by a Panther baseball player. He set single-season school records for home runs (22), total bases (160), and runs scored (65) and placed among the top five in two other categories, including slugging percentage (.796) and RBI (62).
“I could not be happier for Chris,” Pitt head coach Joe Jordano said. “It is a testament to his work ethic, dedication to our program here at Pitt and the incredible season he had. It is well deserved and I am certain that Chris is extremely appreciative of being named a Louisville Slugger All-American.”
An All-Big East First Team selection, Sedon batted .402 during the regular season and was named to the Big East Conference Weekly Honor Roll four times. He started the year off with a nine-game hitting streak and added two separate eight-game hitting streaks along the way. Sedon also hit at least one home run in Pitt’s final 12 of 16 games, including each of the last four games.
In Pitt’s two Big East Championship games, he tallied two home runs and four RBI in losses to No. 2 South Florida and No. 3 West Virginia.
The 17-player first team is chosen by performances up to regional playoffs and picked by the staff of Collegiate Baseball newspaper. The team features 13 conference players or pitchers of the year. This year marks the 13th in which Louisville Slugger has sponsored the Division I All-Americans.
