PITTSBURGH - Mycaiah Clemons, a senior on the University of Pittsburgh women’s track and field team, will be heading to the 2009 NCAA Championships after all, receiving one of seven at-large bids into the 100 meter hurdles race yesterday by the championship committee.
Clemons has produced four top-five finishes this outdoor season in the 100 meter hurdles, including a fifth place finish at the prestigious Texas Relays, April 1-4. Her time of 13.29 in Texas was the seventh fastest 100 meter hurdle time of the season at that point.
Two weeks later, at the Morgan State Legacy meet, Clemons helped the Panther women to the team championship, running a 13.64 to capture second place overall. She won her second Big East title of the year at the 2009 Big East Outdoor Championship meet in Villanova, Pa., clocking a 13.59 despite unfavorable weather conditions.
After running a 14.25 at the ECAC Championship meet and taking fifth place, Clemons bounced back at the NCAA East Regional, running a sub-14 second race for the fourth time this season, finishing in 13.70 for 13th place.
The championships will be held June 10-13 at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Ark., with the University of Arkansas serving as host institution. A total of 544 student-athletes per gender will compete in the championships.
