PITTSBURGH -
Panthers second baseman Chris Sedon has been named to the CollegeBaseballInsider.com All-America Second Team for 2009, the publication announced Monday.
Sedon (Plains, Pa./Lackawanna CC) has now been named to four All-America teams this season, including Collegiate News Louisville Slugger First Team, Baseball America Second Team, American Baseball Coaches Association Third Team and CollegeBaseballInsider.com Second Team.
The four honors in one season is a record for a Pitt player. Sedon has now been named to every All-America list but one and joins a prestigious list of seven other players in Pitt history as an All-American.
In June, Sedon was drafted in the 10th round (300th overall) of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the Detroit Tigers.
In his first year at Pitt, Sedon produced one of the finest seasons by a Panther baseball player. He set single-season school records for home runs (22), total bases (160), and runs scored (65) and placed among the top five in two other categories, including slugging percentage (.796) and RBI (62).
An All-Big East First Team selection, Sedon batted .402 during the regular season and was named to the Big East Conference Weekly Honor Roll four times. He started the year off with a nine-game hitting streak and added two separate eight-game hitting streaks along the way. Sedon also hit at least one home run in 12 of Pitt’s final 16 games, including each of the last four games.
In Pitt’s two Big East Championship games, he tallied two home runs and four RBI in losses to No. 2 South Florida and No. 3 West Virginia.
