
Pitt and St. Francis Battle to 1-1 Tie

PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh men's soccer team bounced back from a 2-0 loss to Duquesne yesterday to tie the visiting St. Francis Red Flash 1-1 here at Founders Field.
Defense was the theme of the first half as the Panthers and Red Flash fought to a 0-0 draw, marking the third consectutive half Pitt had no recorded a goal.
Junior forward Terry Boland broke the slump and put the Panthers up 1-0 when he scored from 10 yards out in the 64th minute. St. Francis' Tyler Hibbs knotted the game at 1-1 with Benjamin Kujawa getting the assist in the 72nd minute.
The Panther offense remained aggressive for the remainder of the second half and had several solid scoring opportunites, but could not find the back of the net.
Pitt ends its preseason exhibition play with a 1-1-1 record and will now look forward to the start of the 2009 season. The Panthers will open the season on the road at Robert Morris on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 4 p.m.
