Third Day of 2009 Speedo Champions Series is Complete

BUFFALO, N.Y.—On the third day of the 2009 Speedo Champions Series, one of Team Pitt’s relay teams earns a first-place finish and several other advance to the finals.
Team Pitt’s men’s 800 free relay team recorded a first-place finish after touching the wall five seconds faster than the second place team, with a time of 7:44.68. The team was made up of Otto Pagel, Justin Corvin, Jake Lucas and Chris Millen.
In individual events, Jon Buchanan placed ninth in the prelims of the 200 fly, but slipped to 15th in the finals. His time of 2:09.20 in the prelims was five second faster than his seed time.
Additionally, Bobby Smith improved to 20th overall in the finals of the 100 back, while Geoff Morgan recorded a 41st-place finish in the 200 fly.
On the women’s side, the 800 free relay team of Lisa McDonnell, Briana Emig, Tamara Lelli and Maggie Walker finished second overall with a time of 8:31.79.
Additionally, the ‘B’ team of Emily DeStefano, Kristen McMullen, Megan Bender and Laura Barnes placed eighth at 8:44.38.
Individually, Lelli finished 52nd in the 200 fly and 57th in the 400 free for Team Pitt.
In the 100 back, Ryann Kishbaugh and Bender advanced to finals after both placed in the top 11. Kishbaugh was second in the prelims, but finished fourth overall with a time of 1:04.86. Bender maintained her 11th-place performance in the finals.
