Cross Country Set For Cappy Anderson Invite

PITTSBURGH—Pitt’s cross country team travels to Princess Anne, Md., for the Cappy Anderson Invitational that is being held on the campus of Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday, Sept. 19. The men’s 8,000 meter race begins at 10:30 a.m., while the women will start the 5,000 meter event at 11:15 a.m.
Pitt is one of 18 teams competing in the invitational, including Bowie State, Bucknell, Coppin State, Delaware State, Hampton, Howard, Loyola (Md.), Morgan State, Norfolk State, Penn State, Princeton, Seton Hall, St. Joseph, UMBC, UMES, Univ. District of Columbia and Villanova.
The Panthers opened the season two weeks ago in the Duquesne Duals, where the women went 5-2 and led by freshman Alyssa Kunkle (Saxonburg, Pa./Knoch) with a 19th–place finish.
On the men’s side, Teddy Miller (Ambler Pa./Ambler) and Josh Christopher(Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) finished in fourth and eighth place overall to lead the men’s team.
The Panthers dominated last year’s Cappy Anderson Invitational, as the men posted five of the top ten times while six of the women finished in the top 12. Both teams placed first at the meet.
