Cross Country Opens the Season in Duquesne Duals

PITTSBURGH—Several Panthers record top-20 finishes, as the University of Pittsburgh cross country team opened its 2009 season in the Duquesne Duals, held at Schenley Park. Pitt raced against Canisius, Carnegie Mellon, Duquesne, Juniata, Niagara, St. Bonaventure, St. Vincent and Wheeling Jesuit.
In the head-to-head matchups on the women’s side, Pitt went 5-2 and defeated both Duquesne and St. Bonaventure, 50-15. The closest race for the Panthers was a 28-27 victory over Wheeling Jesuit.
Freshman Alyssa Kunkel was the first to finish for the Panthers, claiming 19th overall. Sophomore Miya Johnson and senior Emily Setlock also placed in the top 25 for Pitt.
Juniors Teddy Miller and Josh Christopher recorded top-10 finishes for the men, placing fourth and eighth overall. Collectively, five men crossed the finish line in the top-20 for Pitt.
Due to a shorter roster than their opponents, the Panthers dropped their dual matchups on the day.
