PITTSBURGH— In preparation for the upcoming season, the Pitt women's track team took to the trail, Saturday, competing in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
Over 260 runners from 24 schools competed in the women's event held at Schenley Park.
Running in the 5k event, the women's team finished 20th overall as freshman Kelsey Coates set the pace for the Panthers, finishing with a time of 22:36.93.
Following Coates was sophomore Amanda Kuhl, who finished 23:37.41. Arielle Fonrose, Jordan Lee and Elizabeth Kline rounded out the top five for the Panthers.
"We like to have members of our track team compete in at least one (cross country) event a year," Head Coach Alonzo Webb said. "It helps in their training and preparation for the upcoming season."
Members of the men's and women's cross country team will travel to State College, Pa., to compete in the Penn State Nationals on Friday, Oct. 15. The event will take place on the Blue-White golf course.
