Volleyball Faces Syracuse and Marquette on the Road

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh women's volleyball team continues Big East Conference play with matches at Syracuse and Marquette this weekend. The Panthers face the Orange on Friday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m., before playing the Golden Eagles on Sunday, Oct. 31, in a 3 p.m. match.
Pitt (10-14) is coming off a 3-1 loss to Villanova. Senior Alyssa King recorded her eighth double-double of the season in that match, posting 18 assists and 10 digs. Additionally, senior Rachel Kalberer led the Panthers with 10 kills.
Sophomore Margy Acton enters the weekend as Pitt’s school record holder in digs. Last week, she aided the Panthers in a five-set victory over Robert Morris with 45 digs. That number surpassed the previous record of 38 set by Megan McGrane in 2004.
Syracuse (21-5) is also coming off a loss, falling to DePaul in a five-set nail-biter. Last season, Pitt earned a 3-0 shut-out over the Orange. Senior Amy Town tallied a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs in the contest. The Panthers also hold a 29-4 all-time record against Syracuse.

Marquette (15-7) heads into the weekend on an eight-game win streak. The Golden Eagles face Pitt after a Friday night match against West Virginia. Last year, Pitt out-blocked Marquette 14-2 in a 3-0 win at Fitzgerald Field House. Senior Imani Harper stuffed a match-high eight attempts in the contest. Pitt leads the all-time series 4-1.
