Hi! My name is Alex McLaren, and I am a senior on the Pitt men's swim team. We began the season with some of the hardest training I have ever done and are beginning to see the pay off. It has been tough to juggle training while in the midst of midterms, but our team is rising to the challenge. In order to sit atop the Big East Conference this year, we will not only have to survive these tough days but also we'll have to continue excelling in our training. This week alone, I have seen my team mates post times in practice that are competitive with top times in the Big East this season.
The men's team is currently 2-3 on the season; however, we have posted several times that rank at the top of our conference and in the top-25 nationally. This year, people are going the extra mile, which is going to benefit us at the end of the season. There are groups of guys that come early and leave late after training to work on things like starts, relay-takeovers and flexibility. This is what is going to take our team to the next level of competition at the NCAAs. At the moment, we are coming off a long training phase headed into our mid-season meet at Rutgers. I am excited to see how we do, keeping in mind that the best is yet to come.
The bulk of our home dual meets this season start on January 8th against West Virginia. We have a team of swimmers from around the world, ranging from National and Olympic level swimmers from countries like Poland, South Africa, Egypt, Belgium, Canada and of course the United States. I'm looking forward to seeing you at Trees Pool, this season.
