PITTSBURGH—Pitt’s swimming and diving team returns to action this weekend with two Big East road contests. First, the Panthers face Cincinnati on Friday, Nov. 5, at 5 p.m. Then, Pitt travels to Louisville for a noon meet on Saturday, Nov. 6.
Pitt’s women’s team enters the weekend undefeated with wins over Buffalo, St. Bonaventure and Akron. In the women’s victory over Akron, freshman Lauren Matevish set an Ocasek Natatorium Pool record in the 1,000 free at 10:11.50. She was later named the Pitt Performer of the Meet.
Other first-place performances in the same meet included: senior Laura Barnes in the 100 breast, senior Caitlin Trant in the 100 fly, and sophomore Joanna Budzis in the 100 back. All three teamed with junior Elena Spak on the winning 200 medley relay team.
On the men’s side, the Panthers are 1-2, defeating St. Bonaventure and falling to Buffalo and Notre Dame. In the men’s loss to Notre Dame, sophomore Adam Maczewski and freshman Robert Power won Pitt’s Performer of the Meet accolades. Maczewski won the 100 back, while Power finished second in the 200 breast. Both were members of the winning 200 medley relay team.
Senior Andrzej Dubiel is listed first among the Big East, as the fasted 50 free swimmer this season. Maczewski is setting the pace in the 100 back.
Cincinnati split its season-opener against Xavier, as the women’s team improved to 1-0 on the year.
Prior to their contest with the Panthers, the Cardinals host West Virginia on Friday night. Last weekend their women’s team competed in the SMU Classic, where they finished fourth. Brendon Andrews of the men’s team is currently first among Big East swimmers in the 100 free.
