Dubiel Earns Two First-Place Finishes Against Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Senior Andrzej Dubiel earned two individual first-place performances, this afternoon, as the University of Pittsburgh men’s swimming and diving team dropped a 177-123 contest to Louisville at Ralph Wright Natatorium. The Panthers slipped to 2-3 on the year and 1-2 in Big East action.
Dubiel out-did his previous season best of the year in the 50 free and was named Pitt’s Performer of the Meet for his efforts. Coming into the race as the top sprinter in the Big East, Dubiel shaved 51 hundreths of a second off his previous best, and earned a first-place performance of 20.32. The second-place Cardinal giving chase stopped the clock at 20.36.
Later, in the 100 free, Dubiel set the pace again for the rest of the field. He touched the wall at 46.25, which ranks among the top-five performances in the Big East.
Dubiel swam the anchor free leg of the 400 medley relay that earned a first-place finish in the first swimming event of the day. Joining Dubiel on the relay was sophomore Adam Maczewski, junior Benjamin Solari and senior Alex McLaren for a first-place finish at 3:23.70.
Setting Pitt’s first NCAA provisional standard of the season, Maczewski won the 100 back. His time of 48.85 was the only time under 50 seconds and ranks first in the league. Maczewski was later second in the 200 back (1:52.16).
Solari would earn an individual first-place performance in the 200 breast. His was in third place at the 150 mark, but recorded a 31.99 to move ahead of the pack in the final stretch. Solari recorded a season best with his time of 2:05.84. Junior Pierre-Antoine Meunier finished second in the 200 breast with a season best (2:06.12), as well.
In diving action, senior Zane McLain won the 1M event, scoring 299.25 points. However, classmate Collin Forner won the 3M board with a score of 336.30.
Four Panthers earned individual first-place performance in both meets, this weekend. That list includes Dubiel, Maczewski, McLain and Solari.
The Panthers’ diving team will be in action next on Friday, Nov. 19, in the three-day Rutgers Diving Invitational.
