PITTSBURGH—For the first time this season, Pitt’s swimming and diving team earned votes in the TYR/CSCAA College Swimming dual-meet poll this week. The women received nine votes, while the men held one.
The women are among four Big East teams mentioned in the rankings, including No. 17 Louisville, Notre Dame and Villanova. The Panthers opened the season with four consecutive victories, before suffering its first loss of the year to the Cardinals. During that meet, freshman Julie Harrison won the 1,000 free with a then season-best performance (10:10.51).
Pitt later won the Frank Elm Invitational. Sophomore Joanna Budzis set an individual meet record when she won the 200 IM at 2:03.68.
On the men’s side, the Panthers are one of three conference schools on the list as Louisville is ranked 18th and the Fighting Irish are receiving votes. Pitt has earned dual-meet victories over St. Bonaventure (158-125) and Cincinnati (172-71) to-date.
Sophomore Adam Maczewski currently leads the Big East with a NCAA provisional 100 back time of 47.89.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 8, hosting rival West Virginia at Trees Pool. Diving begins at 11 a.m.
