Track and Field Travels for Akron Invitational

PITTSBURGH—Pitt’s men’s and women’s track and field teams travel to Akron, Ohio this weekend for the two-day Akron Invitational beginning Friday, Feb. 12, at 5 p.m.
The Panthers will compete against host Akron, Appalachian State, Ashland, Auburn, Buffalo, California University of Pa., Dayton, Duquesne, Eastern Michigan, Edinboro, IPFW, Kent State, Marshall, Oberlin, Ohio State, Penn State, Slippery Rock, VMI, West Virginia, West Virginia Wesleyan, Wheeling Jesuit, Winthrop and Youngstown State.
Leading the Panthers in the high jump, freshman Rachael McIntosh is seeded third in the event, following her third-place performance of 1.75M at Penn State, this month. McIntosh will also compete in the long jump.
Seniors Kaetlyn Brown is coming off a third-place performance as a member of the 4x200 meter relay team. Individually, Brown will also compete in the 200M dash.
Additionally, senior Kari Hedderick will run in the 400M dash and attempt to earn her third Big East qualifying standard in as many meets. She has posted conference times in the 800M run (2:16.37) and 500M dash (1:15.49) this season.
On the men’s side, sophomore Dontave Cowsette earned the top seed in the 400M dash. His seed time of 47.89 seconds is just over half a second short of being a NCAA provisional mark. Cowsette is also a member of the second-seeded 4x400M relay team.
Sophomore Folarin Ijelu will compete in long jump and high jump events for the Panthers. Ijelu is seeded at 7.32 meters in the long jump and 2.03 meters in the high jump.
