Track and Field Travels for ECAC/IC4A Championships

PITTSBURGH—Pitt’s men’s and women’s track and field teams travel to Boston, Mass., this weekend, for the ECAC and IC4A Championships. Both events will be held on Saturday, March 6 and Sunday, March 7. The women will compete at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, while the men will be hosted by Boston University.
Junior Da’Lynn Mills, sophomore Cambrya Jones, freshman Ashley Woodford and senior Kaetlyn Brown will represent the Panthers in the sprints. Mills and Jones have both qualified in the 60M and 200M dashes. Woodford will join those two in the 60M dash, while Brown turned in a 56.31 performance in the 400M dash at the Big East Championships, and will run in that race.
Running in a middle-distance event, senior Kari Hedderick qualified in the 500 meters after finishing in 1:15.49 at the Penn State National meet on January 30. Additionally, sophomore Miya Johnson will compete in the 800M run, following her 2:12.64 performance, earlier this season.
Representing Pitt in the 60M hurdles will be senior Brianna Broyles, freshman Brittany Carroll and junior Jazmin Hunt.
In the field events, junior Wunmi Fapohunda qualified in the long jump, while junior Kaitlyn Flynn and freshman Rachael McIntosh will compete in the pentathlon. McIntosh also qualified in the high jump.
On the men’s side, sophomore Dontave Cowsette will lead the squad in three different events—400M, 500M and 800M runs. Cowsette has recorded an NCAA provisional time of 1:50.59 in the 800M event, already this season.
Joining Cowsette in the 800M run will be sophomore Ben Hatch.
Junior Antony Hobwana qualified for IC4As in the 60M and 200M dash events. Likewise, senior Sam Perkins will run in the 60M dash event, while sophomore Idris Kasumu qualified in the 200M dash.
Next, sophomore Jermaine Lowery qualified in the 400M dash, and sophomore Elliot Rhodes met the standard in the 500M run.
In the distance events, sophomore Greg Kareis will represent the men in the 800M, mile, and 3,000M events. He took first place in the 3,000M run, earlier this season.
Freshman Tashaun Hill finished fourth in the 60M hurdles at the Big East Championships, and looks to improve upon that performance this weekend.
Lastly, three athletes will compete in field events, including sophomore Folarin Ijelu and senior Brandon Turner in the triple jump, and Garrett Larkin in the shot put and the weight throw.
