Eight Panthers Garner All-Big East Honors

CINCINNATI, Ohio—Eight Panthers garnered All-Big East honors on the final day of the Big East Outdoor Championships, as the University of Pittsburgh women’s track and field team finished ninth overall with 55 points at the conference meet, held at Gettler Stadium.
Pitt’s 4x400M relay team earned All-Big East honors with a second-place performance, besting the previous stadium record of 3:44.99 set in 2003. The Panthers recorded a 3:42.03 finish with a team that consisted of seniors Brianna Broyles and Kaetlyn Brown and freshmen Arielle Fonrose and Rachael McIntosh. McIntosh also earned all-conference accolades in the heptathlon, yesterday.
Earlier in the meet, the 4x100M relay team placed third overall with a time of 45.55. The squad was made up of freshman Ashley Woodford, junior Da’Lynn Mills, freshman Jonnique Lawrence and sophomore Cambrya Jones.
Individually, Jones earned her second All-Big East accolade with a third-place finish in the 200M dash. She turned in a time of 23.74. Earlier on the day, she finished seventh in the finals of the 100M dash (11.96).
Broyles also collected her second individual all-conference honor with a third-place performance in the 400M hurdles. Broyles posted a 1:00.03 finish on the day. She also placed fifth in the finals of the 100M hurdles (14.16), while freshman Brittany Carroll turned in a seventh-place effort at 14.50.
Improving upon their prelim finishes, Lawrence and Brown crossed the finish line at fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 400M dash finals. Lawrence recorded a finish of 55.06.
Also competing in the finals of the sprints, Mills claimed a fifth-place performance in the 200M dash (24.06) and was eighth in the 100M dash (11.98).
Junior Anita James placed sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.95M. Classmate Wunmi Fapohunda recorded an 11.43M finish for an 11th-place effort.
Pitt’s 4x800M relay team recorded a top-10 finish with a time of 9:09.42. The squad was made up of senior Kari Hedderick, sophomore Miya Johnson, freshman Korinne Piper and sophomore Susan Martinez.
The Panthers travel to Princeton, N.J. for the three-day ECAC Championships on Friday, May 14.
