PITTSBURGH - Pitt third baseman/relief pitcher Joe Leonard has been named a Louisville Slugger TPX Third Team All-American, announced the staff at Collegiate Baseball newspaper on Thursday.
Leonard (Dawson, Pa./Connellsville) becomes the second Louisville Slugger All-American for Pitt in the last two years, joining 2009 teammate Chris Sedon. The Panthers have placed four on the prestigious team throughout the years [Leonard (2010), Sedon (2009), Jim Negrych (2006) and P.J. Hiser (2004)], as well as Rob Brant, who was named to the Freshman All-America squad in 2005.
In addition to his All-America status, Leonard was named the 2010 Big East Player of the Year and has earned recognition as one of the top players in the nation as he has been named a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy and a member of the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award.
Leonard not only broke numerous single-season Pitt school records at the plate for hits (104), at bats (240), doubles (23) and runs batted in (71), but the junior also broke the Panthers' single-season and career record for saves with eight and 11, respectively.
