Two Additional Panthers Selected In MLB Draft

PITTSBURGH - Pitt seniors Cory Brownsten and Danny Lopez have been selected in the 2010 Major League Baseball draft, joining teammate Joe Leonard as Pitt draftees.
Brownsten (Lockport, N.Y./Monroe CC), a senior catcher, was drafted in the 15th round by the Atlanta Braves. The Braves also selected Leonard in the third round.
At the plate, Brownsten batted .395 on the year and was outstanding behind the plate as well, boasting a .993 fielding percentage. At the Big East Championship, Brownsten was named to the all-tournament team after batting .417 in three games.
Lopez (Queens, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy), a senior shortstop for the Panthers, was selected in the 17th round by the Seattle Mariners. Lopez served as a four-year starter for the Panthers.
In 2010, Lopez was named as a preseason candidate for the prestigious Brooks Wallace Award, which honors the top shortstop in collegiate baseball. On the year, Lopez batted .349 and was 24-of-30 in stolen bases and finished his career fourth in career stolen bases with 71.
