Dear Panther Fans,
The 2011 fall semester has begun on a good note. We have a large freshman class, which is currently still navigating its way around campus. The class has truly been embraced by the men’s swimming and diving family. With some great leadership from the upperclassmen, the transition from high school to college will be a lot smoother for these talented young guns.
With new energy and a different approach, the men’s swimming and diving team has come together after a revitalizing summer. One can sense the calm and collected atmosphere away from the pool and in the locker room. However, there has also an ambitious and goal-driven aura during training. The team is focused, yet balanced, which has typically been something hard to achieve this early in the season.
A great example of the attitude that everyone has displayed was showcased during the Navy Seal test conducted by Chief Stella last week. We had 26 members of the team put their bodies on the line in order to finish the test. Because this was preseason it made for a magical moment. Individuals were not afraid of pushing themselves this early in the year, despite not knowing what shape they were in and where they would end up. No one was scared of disappointing others.
I am excited for the season to start. I am even more excited to have some memorable moments with all the different characters on our team. Every successful organization has some sort of an ethos, and this year the men’s swimming and diving team has one that makes one believe that something special is around the corner.
Hail to Pitt,
