Women's Volleyball Travels For Two Matches This Weekend

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh women’s volleyball team travels for two Big East matches this weekend. The Panthers face Cincinnati on Saturday, Oct. 22 and Louisville on Sunday, Oct. 23. Both contests begin at 2 p.m.
Pitt (13-9, 3-4 Big East) is coming off a loss to rival West Virginia on Saturday. In the match, sophomore Monica Wignot and freshman Lindsey Zitzke posted double-doubles that included career highs in digs.
Zitzke also posted two aces in the match. With 37 total aces on the year, she is just one shy of tying Carrie Norris (2002) for ninth overall on the single-season record list. Zitzke tallied a season-best six aces against Eastern Kentucky on Aug. 26 and is ranked 24th overall among NCAA Division I leaders in that category.
Libero Margy Acton is pacing the squad with 4.66 digs per set average and ranks among the league’s top 10 passers.
In conference play, Cincinnati is coming off a loss to Louisville (3-0). However, the Bearcats (14-8, 5-2 Big East) are currently riding a successful home streak that includes a 4-0 mark this season. Cincinnati is led by Missy Harpenau with a 3.46 kills per set average, while Caylin Mahoney paces the squad with 10.67 assists per game.
The Cards (15-5, 7-0) dropped a non-conference match to Lipscomb (3-1) Tuesday night. In the match, Lola Arslanbekova tallied 16 kills and leads the team with 5.04 kills per set. Defensively, Caitlin Welch boasts 4.08 digs per set.
The Pitt/Louisville matchup will be televised live on WHAS in Louisville. Gametracker will also be available for both contests.
Last season, the Panthers dropped its matches to the Bearcats (3-0) and Louisville (3-1).
