PROVIDENCE, R.I.-Senior Kiesha Leggs earned Big East Player of the Week honors after leading the Pitt's women's volleyball team to a 3-1 win over previously undefeated and reigning Big East Champion Louisville. Leggs' accolade marks her first such conference nod.
Leggs became the first Panther volleyball player to earn Big East Player of the Week honors this year, and the first since Megan Dooley on Sept. 21, 2009.
"Kiesha showed outstanding focus and determination over the weekend," Head Coach Toby Rens said. "She was a great leader by example on the court."
Leggs put down a career and match-high 24 kills against the Cardinals. She also registered a contest-best .512 hitting percentage, four blocks and one ace. The day before, Leggs collected nine kills in a three-set loss to Cincinnati. She currently leads Pitt in both kills (298) and blocks (84). She has also added seven aces to the squad's league-leading 149 aces this season.
"Earning this award is well deserved because teams have been targeting her all season," Rens added. "I'm very proud of Kiesha because she came through for the team in a big way. Kiesha delivered for her team when we needed her most and that's the greatest contribution any team member can make."
In Big East play alone, Leggs is averaging 3.74 kills per set and 1.03 blocks per set.
The Panthers (14-10, 4-5 Big East) host Marquette at Fitzgerald Field House on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m.
