PITTSBURGH--The University of Pittsburgh swimming and diving team will `Pink the Pool' in support of breast cancer awareness month as the Panthers open Big East action at Joe C. Trees Pool on Friday, Oct. 29 in a 4 p.m. contest against Notre Dame. All fans are encouraged to wear pink.
Pitt is coming off a split, earning wins over St. Bonaventure last Saturday after dropping a pair of close calls to Buffalo that Friday. Juniors Adam Maczewski and Joanna Budzis set Reilly Center pool records in the 100 and 200 back, respectively.
Winning two individual events in the men's 201-99 victory over St. Bonaventure, Maczewski was first to the wall in the 100 back (50.43) and 200 back (1:54.45). He was also the lead leg of the winning 200 medley relay team (1:34.81) that included junior Benjamin Solari, freshman Kourosh Ahani and senior Jake Van Roekel.
Budzis led the women in their 213.5-84.5 victory over the Bonnies. She captured first in the 100 back (58.50), 200 back (2:03.44) and as the lead leg of the 200 medley relay (1:49.43). Budzis was joined by freshman Cam Dixon, sophomore Renee Deschenes and freshman Dani des Tombe on the medley relay team.
In the diving events, junior Brittany DiSanti and sophomore Aaron Snyder led all scorers on the 1M boards against Buffalo.
Notre Dame's men have won its last two meets, defeating Oakland (194-100) and Texas Christian (176-124). The women, however, dropped a 167-125 decision to Auburn.
Last season, Pitt's men fell 184-116 to the Irish. Maczewski and sophomore Robert Power were named Pitt Performers of the Meet after leading the 200 medley relay to a first-place finish.
On the women's side, Friday's meeting will mark the first dual competition between the two programs at Joe C. Trees Pool since 2007 when the Panthers shocked then-No. 23 Notre Dame in a 150-148 decision.
