PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh women’s volleyball team conducted its final youth volleyball clinic of the 2011 season on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Fitzgerald Field House. The Halloween themed clinic was one of four hosted by head coach Toby Rens and the Panthers this fall.
The youth outreach initiative allowed grade school children from the local volleyball community to interact with and learn from the 2011 Pitt Panthers. The clinics included hands-on skill instruction, question and answer sessions, autographs and photo opportunities with the team. The clinics were free of cost and sponsored over 100 Western Pennsylvania youths.
“To see the excitement on the faces of the children who participated in these clinics is as rewarding as it gets” Rens said. “We look forward to continuing and expanding this program and hope to cultivate an even stronger relationship with the local volleyball community and its youth.
“I thought our players and staff did a fantastic job interacting with the kids and sharing what they know about the game,” Rens added. “We all truly enjoyed ourselves.”
The clinics were operated in conjunction with Tri-State Elite Volleyball College Prospect Camps (TSEVB) and Pittsburgh Elite Girls Volleyball.
In addition to the clinics, participants had the opportunity to serve as ball shaggers and honorary team captains during home matches throughout the season.
