Pitt Track and Field Readies for Colonial Relays

PITTSBURGH- The Pitt track and field teams resume action this week they travel to Williamsburg, Va. to compete in the Colonial Relays. The two-day event begins on Friday, April 1 and concludes on Saturday, April 2.
The Panthers opened the outdoor season at the Charlotte 49ers Classic with 15 top-8 performances by the men and 11 top-8 performances by the women.
Last weekend, both squads continued the outdoor season at the Raleigh Relays with eight top-8 performances by the men while the women finished with six top-8 performances.
At the Charlotte 49ers Classic, senior Garrett Larkin placed sixth in the shot put event with a toss of 15.74m. Senior Sarah Anderson was also strong in the throws, claiming fifth place in the shot put and sixth place in the hammer throw.
Senior Tory Toso highlighted the squad with a tie for first place in the pole vault. Toso and two other competitors reached the top height of 3.50m.
Junior Dontave Cowsette won the 800M run, stopping the clock at 1:52.06. In the same event, sophomore Wesley Washington raced to a career best time of 1:52.86 to finish fourth overall.
Making her Panthers debut, freshman Jessica Rocco notched a third place finish in the javelin with a toss of 47.63m. Senior Kelsey Voltz also placed in the event, taking eighth place (37.07m).
In the Raleigh Relays, Larkin set a season best in the hammer throw event with a toss of 47.22m. Junior Kurt Barnhart set a career best in the same event (46.93m). Barnhart also set a career best in the discus throw (46.58m).
Larkin added a third placed finish in the shot put with a throw of 16.65m.
For the women, Anderson also set a season best in the hammer throw (46.07).
Freshman Jessica Rocco added a fifth place finish in the javelin throw event (43.43m). Sophomore Alec Bleacher hurled a career best throw of 57.93m, placing fifth overall in the same event.
The 4x200 relay team comprised of junior Cambrya Jones, sophomore Ashley Woodford, freshman Jordan Hoyt and senior Anita James claimed seventh place and set a season best in the event with a time of 1:39.65.
The men also had success in the relays with a second place finish in the 4x800M relay. The team included freshman Sam Negley, sophomore Elliot Rhodes, Washington, and Cowsette finished second with a mark of 7:35.55.
