Pitt Track and Field Readies for Mason Invitational

PITTSBURGH- Returning to action this weekend, the Pitt track and field teams travel back to Virginia to compete in the Mason Invitational in Fairfax. The all day event begins Saturday, April 9.
Last week, the Panthers competed at the Colonial Relays. The women scored 32 team points and finished 14th place out of 40 teams with seven top-eight finishes. The men collected 14 points and tied for 21st.
Senior Da'Lynn Mills led the team with a first place showing in the 100M dash. Mills crossed the finish line at 12.49, earning the Panthers 10 team points.
Both Mills and senior Lanesha Pugh advanced through both the prelims and the semis to place in the event. Pugh claimed sixth, stopping the clock at 12.77.
Mills and Pugh later assisted the 4x100 relay team to claim a third-place performance with a time of 48.15. Mills ran the first leg followed by Pugh and freshmen Jordan Lee and Ashley Corum.
Once again continuing her success in the jumps, Corum claimed sixth in the long jump, leaping to a distance of 5.36m.
The men earned two 3rd-place performances from juniors Dontave Cowsette and Jermaine Lowery. Cowsette stopped the clock at 1:50.48, his best performance in the outdoor season thus far.
Lowery, competing for the first time this season in the 400M hurdles crossed the finish line at 52.57.
In a top-five performance, senior Garrett Larkin grabbed fifth-place honors in the shot put. Larkin's first toss attempt sailed 15.09m.
In the javelin throw, sophomore Josiah Rupert finished eighth with a toss of 53.96m.
