Women's Track Wins Events at Penn Relays, Ashland Open

PITTSBURGH- Pitt women's track and field placed several individuals at both the Penn Relays and the Ashland Alumni Open this past weekend.
At the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia, the women's relay comprised of sophomore Ashley Woodford, seniors Da'Lynn Mills and Lanesha Pugh, and junior Cambrya Jones won the4x100 ECAC event. The quartet crossed the finish line at 45.24.
The four runners also placed in the 4x200 Championship of America event. Switching the rotation around, Jones led the first leg, followed by Pugh, Woodford and Mills. The group placed fifth overall with a time of 1:35.42.
Freshman Ashley Corum rounded out the team's top-eight results with a seventh place showing in the triple jump eastern event (12.13m).
At the Ashland Open, the team placed nine competitors in six events.
Highlighting the squad with two first-place finishes was sophomore Jonnique Lawrence. The Cincinnati, Ohio native won both the 200M dash (24.49) and the 400M dash (55.33). Freshman Jordan Lee also placed in both events, finishing third in the 100M dash (25.52) and fifth in the 400M dash (57.75).
Sophomore Arielle Fonrose gave the Panthers three top-five finishers in the 400M dash with a third place finish, stopping the clock at 56.72.
Fellow sophomore Elizabeth Kline placed in a team-high three events. Kline captured third in the 400M hurdles (1:02.71), fifth in the 100mH (14.72) and seventh in the long jump (5.06m).
Senior Kelsey Voltz added a fourth place result in the javelin with a toss of 37.64m.
The women's track and field team will gear up for the 2011 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships beginning this Friday, May 6 at Villanova University in Philadelphia.
