PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were named to the 2012 CSCAA Spring Team Scholar All-American list, as announced by CSCAA officials.
"I am very proud of both our men's and women's teams for achieving Scholar All-America levels of achievement,” head coach Chuck Knoles stated. “Our student-athletes are able to balance working out year-round and maintain good grades as well! It is a tribute to their tenacity and desire to attain at the highest level."
The CSCAA All-America list is comprised of collegiate swimming and diving teams, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 or higher. The award is presented to teams earning this standard in both the fall semester and during the NCAA swimming and diving season (winter/spring).
Pitt was one of 10 Big East women’s teams to garner this distinction. Leading Division I schools were Clemson (3.62) and Alabama (3.62). The men were one of only eight Big East teams ranked, with Yale (3.62) first in the Division I rankings.
This is the 14th consecutive All-Academic distinction for the Panthers women’s swimming and diving squad. The award marked the first academic distinction given to the men’s team since 2008.
The women posted a collective 3.35 GPA, while the men’s team tallied a 3.09 average. Earlier this year, Pitt honored thirty-nine members of the swimming and diving squad who registered a 3.0 or higher during the 2011 academic calendar at its Scholar-Athlete Breakfast. Earning a perfect 4.0 GPA were sophomore Lauren Mills, and graduates Cookie McIntyre, Kristen McMullan and Pierre-Antoine Meunier.
