Pitt Heads to Des Moines for NCAA Championships

PITTSBURGH – Eight members of the University of Pittsburgh wrestling team will begin their quest for National Championships and All-America honors on Thursday, March 21, at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.
Shelton Mack (133), Ronnie Garbinsky (149), Donnie Tasser (157), Tyler Wilps (165), Nick Bonaccorsi (174), Max Thomusseit (184), Matt Wilps (197) and Zac Thomusseit (285) will represent the Pitt contingent at the Championships. The eight competitors ties the most the Panthers have sent under head coach Rande Stottlemyer, Pitt also sent eight wrestlers to Nationals in 2011.
Garbinsky, Tyler Wilps and Bonaccorsi will be making their first trips to NCAAs. Mack, Tasser and Max Thomusseit will be representing the Panthers for the second time, while Matt Wilps and Zac Thomusseit are making their third trip.
Over its storied history, Pitt has crowned 16 National Champions and produced 72 All-Americans, including Coach Stottlemyer, assistant coach Matt Kocher and 197-pounder Matt Wilps who was an All-American last season
